Saints Fall Flat to the Chiefs in Arrowhead, 26-13

By Niles Carpenter, Saints Contributor

The New Orleans Saints stumbled against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday night, losing 26-13. Patrick Mahomes shredded the Saints’ defense, throwing for 331 yards, while Travis Kelce led the receiving corps with nine catches for 70 yards.

Kareem Hunt, making his triumphant return to Kansas City after an injury to Isiah Pacheco, rushed for 102 yards on 27 carries, including a touchdown. Despite Mahomes’ brilliance, the Chiefs’ struggles in the red zone kept the Saints within striking distance, though they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities.

Derek Carr’s night ended early due to an oblique injury after throwing for 185 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The Saints’ ground game was once again stymied by Kansas City’s stout run defense, as Alvin Kamara was held to just 26 yards on 11 carries.

Foster Moreau’s fourth-quarter touchdown brought New Orleans within three points, but a 50-yard bomb to JuJu Smith-Schuster set up a Chiefs score that buried the Saints’ hopes of a comeback.

Kansas City’s defense proved critical, especially in holding New Orleans to field goals and stopping their late drives. The Chiefs’ ability to dominate both through the air and on the ground, combined with their defensive resilience, led them to a 5-0 start, while the Saints struggled to find any rhythm on offense.
