Saints Inept in Thursday Night Loss to Broncos, 33-10

The New Orleans Saints dropped their fifth straight game in a disheartening 33-10 loss to the Denver Broncos, as Sean Payton returned to the Superdome for the first time since leaving the Saints. Denver dominated in every aspect, outgaining New Orleans 389-271 in total yards.
Javonte Williams led the way for the Broncos with two rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Bo Nix contributed 164 passing yards and 75 rushing yards. The banged-up Saints, without starting quarterback Derek Carr and key offensive weapons, struggled mightily to generate any offensive momentum, with rookie Spencer Rattler fumbling twice—one leading to a defensive touchdown.
The Saints’ injury-depleted roster was a major storyline in the game, as they were without top wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, along with several offensive linemen and tight end Taysom Hill. Rattler, making just his second NFL start, was overwhelmed by Denver’s aggressive defense, getting sacked six times and losing two crucial fumbles.
The Saints’ defense couldn’t make any game-changing plays either, missing key opportunities like a dropped interception by Tyrann Mathieu late in the second quarter, which allowed Denver to extend their lead before halftime.
The return of Payton, who coached the Saints for 15 seasons and led them to a Super Bowl victory, added emotional weight to an otherwise forgettable night for New Orleans fans. A halftime ceremony honoring former quarterback Drew Brees was the lone bright spot, as Brees was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame.
Unfortunately, the Saints’ injuries, mistakes, and poor execution on both sides of the ball proved too much to overcome as the Superdome emptied before the final whistle.
