Former Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants linebacker Jaylon Smith has found a new home in the Big Easy. After an unsuccessful contract negotiation with Anthony Barr, the New Orleans Saints swiftly shifted their focus to Smith, successfully agreeing to terms.

The Saints’ interest in Smith was evident earlier this week when they brought him in for a workout. Jordan Schultz of theScore.com broke the news of the agreement, highlighting the team’s eagerness to reinforce their linebacker squad.

Smith, a former second-round pick by the Cowboys in 2017, had his shining moments in the NFL, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2019. Over five seasons in Dallas, he amassed an impressive stat line with 498 tackles, two interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 20 passes defensed across 68 games.

Despite his notable contributions, Smith’s journey took a turn during the 2021 season when the Cowboys waived him, leading him to briefly join the Green Bay Packers before settling in with the New York Giants.

The Saints’ acquisition of Jaylon Smith is a strategic move aimed at shoring up their linebacker unit behind established leaders Demario Davis and Pete Werner. Smith’s experience and versatility will likely provide valuable depth and a fresh injection of talent to their defensive roster.

As the team continues to fine-tune their lineup ahead of the upcoming season, Smith’s presence could prove pivotal in enhancing the Saints’ defensive abilities on the field.
