Saints Lose to 49ers 16-10 in Close Matchup
By Niles Carpenter, Saints Contributor
The New Orleans Saints wrapped up their California road trip with a narrow 16-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night. Quarterback Derek Carr led an impressive 16-play, 95-yard touchdown drive, showcasing solid run blocking and the versatile skills of Taysom Hill, who powered in for a 1-yard score on fourth down. Carr completed seven of his nine passes for 47 yards over three series, while Hill and Jamaal Williams contributed significantly to the rushing game early on.
Rookie quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener struggled to stand out in the race to be Carr’s backup. Rattler lost a fumble, and Haener nearly had one as well, reflecting their inexperience. The Saints also faced several injuries, with cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and rookie center Sincere Haynesworth leaving the game due to leg injuries, and rookie defensive tackle Khristian Boyd exiting in the fourth quarter. Despite the loss, the Saints showed flashes of potential but must address these issues as they prepare for the regular season.
