The New Orleans Saints are continuing preparations for Week 1, but the running back room remains one of the biggest storylines after another practice update involving Kendre Miller.
Miller was not spotted at practice, along with Alvin Kamara, Audric Estime, Oscar Delp and Cam Jordan. Head coach Kellen Moore said Miller and Estime are “just working through some stuff,” while also making an important clarification: Miller’s current issue is not related to the back injury he dealt with during training camp.
That distinction matters because Miller has already dealt with multiple injury setbacks throughout his young NFL career. The Saints will now continue monitoring his availability as the regular season approaches.
Saints Players Not Spotted at Practice
Among the players not seen during the session were:
- TE Oscar Delp
- RB Kendre Miller
- RB Audric Estime
- RB Alvin Kamara
- DE Cam Jordan
Trey Palmer, Cedric Tillman and Charlie Smyth also were not spotted during the session.
Meanwhile, Treyton Welch, Kevin Austin Jr. and Stone Smartt were in attendance.
Kellen Moore Gives Update on Miller and Estime
Moore described the situations involving Miller and Estime as players simply “working through some stuff.”
The biggest takeaway was his confirmation that Miller’s latest issue is unrelated to the back injury that caused him to miss time earlier in camp.
That should provide at least some reassurance, but Miller’s health remains worth watching closely considering how difficult it has been for him to maintain availability throughout his career.
Saints Make More Practice Squad Moves
New Orleans also continued adjusting the roster and practice squad.
The Saints re-signed wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. after he was briefly released following roster cuts.
Tight end Treyton Welch also returned to the practice squad after spending training camp with the team.
The Saints additionally reached injury settlements with:
- CB Dalys Beanum
- OT Barry Wesley
These moves continue the Saints’ effort to build depth and flexibility heading into the regular season.
Running Back Room Remains a Major Storyline
With Miller, Kamara and Estime all missing practice, the Saints’ running back situation will remain under heavy watch.
The key question now is whether these are simply short-term maintenance issues or whether the Saints will need to adjust their Week 1 plans.
Miller, in particular, will be one of the most closely watched players because of both his upside and his lengthy injury history.
