Saints QB Tyler Shough makes statement in second career start

The New Orleans Saints may have found their next franchise quarterback. Rookie Tyler Shough left a strong impression in just his second career start, a 17-7 road upset win over the division-rival Carolina Panthers (5-5). The No. 40 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft finished 19-of-27 for 282 yards and two touchdowns. The win marked the first by a Saints rookie quarterback since Dave Wilson (1981), snapping the longest drought in the NFL. Shough significantly outplayed Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, 2023’s No. 1 overall pick. He was 17-of-25 for 124 yards and an interception. When accounting for sacks and rushing yards, the Panthers averaged 3.7 yards per Young dropback. Most impressive about Shough’s breakout start was his performance on third downs; he went 7-of-10 for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
