New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr‘s promising performance on the field against the Green Bay Packers took a worrying turn as he left Sunday’s game in the second half after sustaining an injury during a sack. Carr’s condition led to immediate concerns, and he was promptly taken to a local hospital for a battery of tests, including X-rays, to assess the extent of his injuries. Among the various factors being examined are potential internal injuries, leaving the Saints and their fans anxiously awaiting the results. NFL Insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that Carr “seems to have avoided a more serious injury than originally expected, sources say. He could still miss some time, but this does not appear to be a season-ending scenario.” He also reported that “Derek Carr is believed to have suffered an AC sprain, source said. After a multitude of tests, there was no additional damage. When he plays will be determined by the swelling and how he gains mobility”. Most AC joint injuries will start to improve within a week of the injury, but it can take up to six weeks for a full recovery according to Medical Journals.
The incident occurred during the game at Lambeau Field, where the Saints were facing off against the Packers. Carr’s departure from the game came at a pivotal moment, with the Saints leading 17-0. However, after Carr’s exit, the team failed to score any additional points in the remaining 25-plus minutes of play. This abrupt shift in momentum allowed the Packers to make a comeback, ultimately securing an 18-17 victory.
In the postgame press conference, Saints head coach Dennis Allen provided limited information about Carr’s condition, confirming that the quarterback had been transported to a local hospital for tests specifically focused on his right shoulder. The lack of specific details raised further concerns among fans and pundits alike.
Carr’s presence has been instrumental in the Saints’ early-season success, offering stability and skill at the quarterback position. Losing him to injury would undoubtedly pose a significant challenge for the team as they strive to remain competitive in a highly competitive NFL season.
