Saints RB Eno Benjamin Suffers Torn Achilles Tendon, Likely Out for 2023 Season

In a devastating blow to the New Orleans Saints, running back Eno Benjamin suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during training camp, as announced by coach Dennis Allen. This unfortunate injury is expected to sideline Benjamin for the entire 2023 NFL season.

The news comes amidst additional challenges for the Saints’ backfield, as star running back Alvin Kamara received a three-game suspension from the NFL due to his involvement in a prior incident. With Kamara and now Benjamin unavailable, the Saints will need to heavily rely on Jamaal Williams, a free-agent signing, and third-round draft pick Kendre Miller to carry the running back duties in their absence.

This injury marks another setback for Benjamin, who joined the Saints last December after being released by the Texans. The 24-year-old’s promising season has come to a halt, leaving the team with limited options in their backfield going into the upcoming season.

As the Saints face the challenge of coping without two key running backs, the spotlight will be on Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller to step up and fill the void left by the injured Benjamin and suspended Kamara. Undrafted rookie Ellis Merriweather may also be in contention for a roster spot, providing additional depth for the running back position.

However, it remains to be seen how the Saints’ running game will unfold without the talents of Benjamin, who demonstrated potential during his brief appearances with the team last season. The upcoming season will be a true test of the Saints’ resilience and adaptability as they navigate the hurdles posed by these significant roster changes.
