Saints Restructure TE Juwan Johnson’s Contract, Creating Cap Space

By Niles Carpenter, Saints Contributor

The New Orleans Saints have restructured tight end Juwan Johnson’s contract, freeing up $3.5 million in cap space, according to reports from Field Yates. Johnson, 27, originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 2020. He transitioned from wide receiver to tight end, quickly becoming a valuable asset for the team.

After re-signing with the Saints for the 2022 season on a one-year deal, Johnson inked a two-year, $12 million extension before the 2023 season. His versatility and continued development have made him a reliable target for the Saints’ offense.

In 2023, Johnson played in 13 games, recording 37 receptions for 368 yards and four touchdowns. The restructuring of his contract provides the Saints with much-needed financial flexibility as they continue to navigate their cap situation. Johnson will continue to lead a tight end room that includes Taysom Hill, Foster Moreau, and Dallin Holker, offering a mix of athleticism and skill for New Orleans’ offensive strategy moving forward.
