The New Orleans Saints have announced a notable addition and subtraction to their player lineup. The team has made a strategic move by signing free agent running back Darrel Williams, reinforcing their offensive arsenal. Hailing from a successful stint with the Kansas City Chiefs and a brief tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, Williams brings a robust track record to the Saints. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 224 pounds, he has showcased his versatility in 57 regular season games, carrying the ball for 1,014 yards and achieving 11 touchdowns.
His contributions extend to the receiving game, where he has caught 87 passes for 771 yards and secured four touchdowns. Moreover, Williams has demonstrated his mettle on the grand stage of the playoffs, amassing 148 yards on 32 carries and adding two touchdowns, all while displaying his skills in pass-catching and special teams duties.
Also, the Saints have decided to part ways with wide receiver James Washington. The termination of Washington’s contract marks the end of his tenure with the team, a journey that had initially held promise when he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Washington’s career trajectory showcased potential during his 2019 season with 44 receptions and an impressive 735 yards. However, recent seasons have witnessed a downturn in his performance, with his participation in only two games in the previous year, during which he failed to secure a single catch.
