Saints trade WR Rashid Shaheed to Seahawks for two picks ahead of deadline

Copied!

The Seattle Seahawks are adding speed to pair with All-Pro talent Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The Seahawks acquired receiver Rashid Shaheed in a trade with the New Orleans Saints, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday, per sources informed of the situation. The Saints are receiving 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks in return.

Seattle later announced the deal.

Shaheed rejoins Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was the OC in New Orleans last season. The fourth-year wideout flashed big-play potential under Kubiak, generating 73-plus yards in four of six games with three TD catches before injuries wiped out his season.

The speedster hasn’t had the same impact to open this season, with just two games of 75-plus yards and two scores in nine games.

We could see some fireworks from Sam Darnold with Shaheed now playing alongside JSN. The speed the newly acquired wideout brings is exactly the type of over-the-top weapon that the Seahawks needed. With Cooper Kupp battling injuries, the Seahawks added a playmaker to make an already good offense even better.

Smith-Njigba will still be the go-to target, but having Shaheed’s ability to take the top off defenses will provide the second-year pro even more open grass to work with.
