he Saints have reached the point where another week of promises will do little to quiet the frustration. At 1–4, New Orleans heads to MetLife Stadium needing a performance that gives Who Dat Nation something concrete to believe in.
That urgency drives the latest edition of The Sports Coma’s Drive Time, as Big Q breaks down Saints vs. Giants, the injury picture, Kellen Moore’s offensive plan and the keys to stopping the slide.
Is Week 6 a must-win? A defeat would leave the Saints 1–5. A victory would move them to 2–4 and give them a chance to build momentum. The season will continue either way, but the margin for wasting opportunities keeps shrinking.

New Orleans enters after a 23–13 loss to Minnesota, its third consecutive defeat. Against a Giants team with a winning record, the Saints need to turn preparation into sustained execution.
Tyler Shough’s Biggest Test: Answering the Pressure
The protection problem is measurable. Entering Week 6, Tyler Shough has been sacked 13 times and hit 39 times. He also has eight turnovers: five interceptions and three lost fumbles.
New York has increased its pressure, too. According to the Saints’ official offensive preview, the Giants blitzed on 56.6 percent of opposing dropbacks over their previous two games, up from 23 percent through the first three weeks.
That makes the response a shared assignment. Moore must provide quick outlets and clear protection answers. The line and backs must identify their responsibilities, receivers must recognize pressure, and Shough must get the ball out without forcing a dangerous throw.
Five Keys to a Saints Victory
1. Make the Blitz Cost New York
Quick completions, screens and well-timed throws into space can make an aggressive defense reconsider its approach. The Saints should establish those answers early. Asking Shough to repeatedly rescue long-developing plays would invite another difficult afternoon.
2. Keep the Running Game Relevant
Alvin Kamara’s availability matters, but the broader requirement is productive early-down football. The Saints need enough from the ground game to keep their playbook open.
If Kamara is limited or unavailable, the plan must fit the backs who can contribute. New Orleans cannot allow uncertainty at one position to become an excuse for an offense without balance.
3. Protect Possessions and Finish Drives
A clean possession has value for a struggling team. New Orleans needs to avoid the giveaway that hands an opponent a short field, then turn its own scoring chances into touchdowns.
Playing urgently must still include the discipline to throw the ball away when necessary. Every possession should end with the Saints making New York earn its next opportunity.
4. Make New York Earn Its Yardage
Defensively, the priorities are sound tackling, disciplined run fits and coverage that prevents easy explosive gains.
With Kaden Elliss and Anfernee Jennings ruled out, communication among the available defenders becomes especially important. Replacement snaps must come with clear assignments.
5. Show Moore Can Adjust During the Game
The opening script will only carry the offense so far. If New York changes its pressure looks or takes away a preferred target, Moore must respond before stalled possessions pile up.
Accountability should also reach playing time when repeated execution errors hurt the team. The standard must apply throughout the lineup, with coaches prepared to make changes that give New Orleans its best chance to win.
Injury Watch: Important Friday Designations
Kamara and Chris Olave remain major availability questions. Shough practiced fully throughout the week despite a left-hand issue and received no game designation.
| Team | Selected players and injuries | Friday status |
|---|---|---|
| Saints | Kaden Elliss — calf; Anfernee Jennings — knee | Out |
| Saints | Alvin Kamara — back; Chris Olave — illness; Nathan Shepherd — illness; Lorenzo Styles Jr. — knee | Questionable |
| Giants | Colton Hood — concussion; Theo Johnson — neck; Tyler Nubin — neck | Out |
| Giants | Abdul Carter — calf; Jermaine Eluemunor — calf; Andrew Thomas — groin | Questionable |
Selected designations from the October 16 reports. Questionable players are not confirmed inactive; check game-day updates for final availability.
Carter’s status could affect New York’s pass rush, while the availability of Thomas and Eluemunor could influence the Saints’ opportunities up front. New Orleans still has to execute its assignments against whoever takes the field.
Three Mistakes New Orleans Cannot Afford
- Giving away field position: Turnovers and avoidable penalties can undo an otherwise competitive series.
- Chasing the game too early: A difficult opening possession should not lead to forced throws or an abandoned offensive plan.
- Letting one bad play become a bad quarter: The next snap requires a composed response from players and coaches.
Who Dat Nation Needs Evidence of Progress
A win at MetLife would give the Saints something they urgently need: a result to build on. Getting there requires sharper protection, better decisions and adjustments that show up during the game.
