1. Protect Tyler Shough and keep the offense on schedule

Aidan Hutchinson is a central matchup to account for on Detroit’s defensive front. New Orleans should plan protection around where he aligns and avoid allowing obvious passing situations to dictate the afternoon. The practical answer is a mix of quick throws, well-timed protection help and enough productive rushing attempts to keep the playbook open. First-down penalties and sacks would make that job harder.

Shough does not need to force a highlight on every possession. Taking an available completion, throwing the ball away when necessary and preserving manageable third downs can keep the Saints competitive.

2. Make Jahmyr Gibbs earn every yard

St. Brown deserves attention around the first-down marker, while the Saints must keep sound leverage against Williams downfield. A successful defensive series can include short completions, provided New Orleans tackles well and prevents them from becoming explosive gains.

4. Create touches for Olave and Etienne

New Orleans should enter with a deliberate plan to involve its offensive playmakers. Motion, different formations and changes in tempo can help reveal coverage and create favorable opportunities.

Olave should be part of that plan early. Etienne can help the Saints maintain balance and provide an outlet when downfield options are covered.
