The Steelers have their offensive coordinator. They’re finalizing a deal with Brian Angelichio for the role on Mike McCarthy’s Pittsburgh staff, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The 53-year-old spent the past four seasons as the Minnesota Vikings’ passing game coordinator and tight ends coach. He’s never been an offensive coordinator in the NFL, but he did serve at Ithaca from 2000-2005 in the role.
Evidently, McCarthy believes in his ability, and is hoping for him to grow into the role. Of course, McCarthy is an accomplished play-caller himself, so there will be a sturdy shoulder to lean on for Angelichio.
Meanwhile, McCarthy also added Frank Cignetti Jr. to the offensive staff, according to Gerry Dulac. The son of legendary coach Frank Cignetti Sr. and brother to Indiana coach Curt Cignetti, Frank Jr. will reunite with McCarthy for the first time in eight years.
Cignetti Jr. spent the 2025 season as the offensive coordinator of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, similar to his brother and father. He’s been a well traveled coach since being a GA at Pittsburgh in 1989. The Pittsburgh native is now coming home to coach under McCarthy.
In 2018, the Packers struggled to a 6-9-1 record, prior to a resurgence for Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay. It was McCarthy’s final season in Green Bay and the lone one for Cignetti Jr.
