Steelers sign general manager Omar Khan to new three-year contract

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Thursday that they have signed general manager Omar Khan to a new three-year contract, ensuring that the GM will remain in the Steel City through at least the 2028 campaign.

“I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said in a statement. “Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field.”

Khan, 48, has been at the helm of the Steelers’ front office since 2022, but has been with the organization since 2001. In that time, Khan has seen the formation of a pair of Super Bowl-winning squads in the 2005 and 2008 seasons, as well as a streak of 21 straight non-losing seasons — 18 of them coming with head coach Mike Tomlin — the team will take into the 2025 campaign.

Since Khan succeeded Kevin Colbert as general manager three years ago, the Steelers have accumulated an overall 29-22 record with two playoff appearances, though they have been left wanting for deeper playoff runs.

Known in his tenure for aggressive moves in free agency and the draft that even temporarily earned him the moniker “The Khan Artist” from Tomlin, this offseason has been busy for Khan. Most notably, the Steelers courted and eventually signed Aaron Rodgers for what is expected to be the quarterback’s final season.

Khan also orchestrated a trade with the Seahawks to acquire wide receiver DK Metcalf in March and worked out this week’s blockbuster trade to acquire cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith. He also made the big move of trading wide receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys in May, resetting the wide receiver room between that and the Metcalf move.
