Surprising update emerges on Cowboys' pursuit of Jadeveon Clowney

After the Dallas Cowboys hosted Jadeveon Clowney for a visit, a deal is reportedly not expected to come together. DLLS Sports’ Clarence Hill Jr. reported the “early word” is the franchise is “probably not going to” land the free agent pass-rusher.

Dallas met with Clowney Wednesday as the team looks at options to potentially add to the defense. Of course, the Cowboys traded star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks.

Clowney last played in for the Carolina Panthers last season before becoming a free agent. He has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks after starting his career with the Houston Texans, who selected him No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Jadeveon Clowney has three Pro Bowl appearances to his name – all of which came with Houston – and was a second team All-Pro selection in 2016. He totaled 46 tackles with Carolina last season, including 5.5 sacks and nine tackles for loss, as part of an up-and-down year for the Panthers. His best came in 2017 when he had 59 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks to earn his second Pro Bowl selection.

The Cowboys dropped their first game of the season last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, which served as the NFL’s kickoff game. A weather delay changed things after the two offenses got off to roaring starts, and the Eagles ultimately came away with the 24-20 victory.
