With Gervonta “Tank” Davis‘ potential fight with Vasiliy Lomachenko already off the table this year, the boxing world is abuzz with speculation about his next opponent. Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, revealed that Loma is currently lacking motivation and prefers to spend more time with his family, despite lucrative offers on the table. “Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn’t have the motivation at the moment,” Klimas said. This decision leaves Davis, the WBA lightweight champion with an impressive record of 30-0 (28 KOs), looking for a new challenge. Davis’ assistant coach, Kenny Ellis, has expressed interest in a showdown with WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson in November.
The prospect of a bout between Davis and Stevenson is tantalizing for boxing fans. Stevenson, 27, holds an unblemished record of 22-0 (10 KOs) and is a former WBO featherweight and super featherweight champion. He claimed his current WBC lightweight title in 2023 by defeating Edwin De Los Santos in a unanimous decision and most recently defeated Artem Harutyunyan on July 6. A fight between these two undefeated champions promises to be a high-stakes clash of skills and styles. With Davis coming off an eighth-round knockout win over Frank Martin in June, and Stevenson’s recent rise to the top of the lightweight division, the anticipation for this potential matchup is mounting.
