Terry McAulay calls out controversial penalty on Dolphins wiping out huge Jaylen Waddle gain

The Miami Dolphins (2-6) were on the wrong end of a controversial penalty call in the second quarter of Thursday’s Week 9 home contest against the Baltimore Ravens (2-5). Down 14-3, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa connected with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle on a 36-yard gain to put Miami inside Baltimore’s 10-yard line.

The big play was wiped out by a tripping penalty on running back Ollie Gordon . Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay was vocal in that he felt a penalty shouldn’t have been called on Gordon.

“It’s not a foul,” McAulay said. “He gets him with the lower part of his rear end/torso whatever, doesn’t raise his leg and impede or obstruct the opponent. It’s an incorrect call.”

It sure looked like Gordon slipped and Ravens defensive end Mike Green hopped over him as he was falling. Gordon was angry on the sideline, slamming his helmet on the ground as Miami personnel attempted to calm him down.

The call negated a play which would have given the Dolphins some much-needed momentum on offense. Instead, they punted the football away three plays later.
