Tigers Snap Skid with Gritty Victory Over Vanderbilt 24-17

By Milton Manningham, LSU Football Contributor

LSU bounced back in a big way Saturday night, defeating Vanderbilt 24-17 at Tiger Stadium to snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 7-4 (4-3 SEC). Josh Williams was instrumental, rushing for 90 yards and scoring two crucial touchdowns, while quarterback Garrett Nussmeier delivered an outstanding 332-yard passing performance.

The Tigers’ offense finally shook off weeks of stagnation, piecing together a balanced attack that included 129 rushing yards and zero turnovers. Vanderbilt, seeking its first win in Baton Rouge since 1951, struck early with a 63-yard touchdown on the first play of the game but struggled to sustain that momentum against a resurgent LSU defense.

The game turned on a pivotal fourth-quarter drive, where Nussmeier and the offense showcased their resilience. Facing a critical fourth down, a 24-yard completion to C.J. Daniels kept the drive alive, culminating in a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kyren Lacy. The LSU defense, which had allowed 107 points during its skid, stepped up with its best performance in over a month, holding Vanderbilt to 308 total yards.

Though Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia made it a one-score game late, the Tigers’ offense bled the clock to secure the victory. With Oklahoma looming next, LSU will aim to build on this momentum in their final home game of the regular season.
