As the NASCAR Cup Series prepares to race on the streets of Chicago for the third time on July 6, the future of a street race in the Windy City is up in the air. 2025 is the final year of a three-year deal that was signed by NASCAR and the city to bring NASCAR’s first street race to the most populous city in Illinois, but street racing appears to be a discipline of racing that NASCAR would like to see remain on the schedule. While reports have surfaced that a street race in San Diego is potentially on the table, Cup Series driver Todd Gilliland voiced his support for NASCAR taking a street race to new markets. “All the talks are interesting,” Gilliland said during a media call on Wednesday. “I think it’s fun to go different places. I don’t think we could get close to (Los Angeles) with the traffic that we had when we went to the (LA) Coliseum.
