Tom Brady would 'never say never' to competing in flag football at 2028 Olympics

Copied!

Tom Brady famously retired and unretired from the NFL during the 2022 offseason.

Could the seven-time Super Bowl champion, who hung it up “for good” in 2023, pull another reversal to go for gold in flag football at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles?

“I would never say never,” Brady said Tuesday on Good Morning America , via People.com, when asked about the possibility.

Despite his top-tier pocket presence, Brady was hardly fleet of foot even in two-plus decades ago. Now 48, the uber-competitive Brady likely couldn’t allow himself to completely rule out competing in the first flag football event in Olympic history, but he did go on to say such an event transpiring is “unlikely.”

He’d instead welcome an advisory or coach role if the opportunity arose, happy to let the current faces of the NFL lead the way under center.

“I’ll let the young Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen get out there and try to win a gold medal for the U.S.,” Brady said.

Those itching to see Brady command an offense again still have an opportunity to do so, though.

It’s lower stakes than the upcoming 34th Olympiad, but Brady is participating in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic on March 21, an event that was relocated from Saudi Arabia to L.A. amid the war in Iran.

Brady is slated to serve as co-captain of Founders FFC alongside Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, while the Commanders’ Jayden Daniels and the Bengals’ Joe Burrow will captain Wildcats FFC together. A third team made up of USA football players such as Aamir Brown and Darrell “Housh” Doucette will also participate, providing one of the first up-close looks at how the talent of NFL players measures up against flag football players in their domain a couple years ahead of the Olympics.

After that, it’s back to grindstone for Brady in his various responsibilities as a Fox Sports NFL analyst and minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.

“I love my Fox job, I love doing my broadcasting — a big commitment to that,” Brady said. “I love the NFL, I love the Raiders, I love working on that and different projects I have. So I have a lot going on.”
