Rumors are swirling around the New Orleans Pelicans, as they are reportedly exploring potential deals for Jonas Valanciunas, their seasoned center, who is entering the final year of his contract. According to reputable sources at The Athletic, the Pelicans have their eyes set on a pair of specific players to potentially acquire in exchange for Valanciunas: Jarrett Allen of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons.
The interest in Jarrett Allen comes as no surprise, given the executive vice president of basketball operation’s ties to the Cavaliers organization. However, Allen’s recent performance has raised some concerns, leading to increased trade chatter. NBA insider Marc Stein notes that the Cavaliers may be more open to parting ways with Allen after his underwhelming showing in the playoffs against the Knicks. On the other hand, Isaiah Stewart, a young and promising big man from the Pistons, is also on the Pelicans’ radar, adding an element of intrigue to the potential trade scenario. Stewart averaged 11.3 points and 8.1 rebounds, starting 47 of 50 games before suffering a season-ending left shoulder injury in March. Stewart had a career-high 13 double-doubles last season and recently inked a four-year, $64 million rookie contract extension.
As the NBA offseason unfolds, fans and analysts alike will closely monitor the Pelicans’ actions, eager to see if any deals materialize involving Valanciunas and the coveted talents of Allen or Stewart.
