After months of believing Trevon Diggs would miss regular season time, he appears set to take the field on Thursday night. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Diggs is “expected” to play in the opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. He might not be a full-go but the Dallas Cowboys will be thrilled to have the former All-Pro cornerback out there.

“My understanding is that Diggs is expected to play in this game on Thursday night,” Pelissero said via The Insiders . “That is unbelievable because back in December, Diggs underwent knee surgery… From what I was hearing back in the spring, they were hearing Trevon Diggs was, maybe, going to be out until midseason. Now, all of sudden, he might be on a pitch count. I know they’re going to be careful with him. But barring a setback, Trevon Diggs will play on Thursday night against an Eagles team that has guys like AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith .”

Even going back to the beginning of training camp, this would have been a surprise. Diggs was docked by the Cowboys’ front office for failing to workout enough inside team facilities. It’s a move the player was not too thrilled about, expressing his frustration. However, Diggs kept working on his rehab and should now pay off.

Monday and Tuesday’s practice reports were positive signs. We saw Diggs listed as a full participant on both occasions. The expectations for Wednesday are the same, giving him one final ramp-up before getting on a plane up to Philadelphia. Official status will not be given until Thursday, just a few hours before kick off inside Lincoln Financial Field.
