Tulane has been in the news plenty recently as coach Jon Sumrall has been linked to SEC programs with coaching openings — and even some jobs that aren’t open yet. That’s a testament to what Sumrall has accomplished in a year and a half in charge of the Green Wave, but his team still has important football to play as it enters the home stretch of the season with a conference championship and, potentially, a spot in the College Football Playoff up for grabs. Coming out of an open week, Tulane (6-1, 3-0 American) hits the road Thursday against UTSA (3-4, 1-2). The Roadrunners had some time to regroup since their blowout loss to North Texas two weeks ago, and they’re back at the Alamodome, where they haven’t lost a home conference game in five seasons under coach Jeff Traylor. UTSA’s offense is one of the best in the conference, but its defense has surrendered 40-plus points three times this season.
