NEW ORLEANS — Tulane returns Uptown with a chance to change the direction of its season in front of a national audience.
The Green Wave hosts Memphis on Friday night at Yulman Stadium, carrying a 2–3 record and an 0–1 start in the American Conference. Memphis arrives at 5–1 and 2–0 in league play. A Tulane victory would restore its overall and conference records to .500; a loss would increase the pressure on a team still searching for consistent production.
Get up! It’s game day, Greenies!

Official Tulane game information
Memphis can challenge the entire defense
The Tigers average 516.7 yards and 38.5 points per game. Marcus Stokes has completed 70.1 percent of his passes for 1,535 yards, 16 touchdowns and three interceptions. Those numbers come from Memphis’ current cumulative statistics and explain why Tulane needs more than a plan for one receiver or one formation.
Memphis can make an aggressive defense pay if the first tackle fails, and it can make a conservative defense defend a long sequence of successful snaps. Tulane needs pressure that arrives with coverage behind it and run fits that put a second defender in position to finish.
Running back Jaylin Carter adds a major ground threat. Memphis’ official matchup notes list him with 645 rushing yards, eight touchdowns and a 7.2-yard average. The Green Wave has to limit the easy yards before considering how to create a takeaway.Team stat box — 2026 season to date

The offense needs to sustain the evening
Tulane’s own numbers show where possessions are breaking down. The Green Wave has converted only one of six fourth-down attempts and has averaged 25:26 in possession time. It has also allowed 14 sacks, according to its season statistics.
That combination puts pressure on the defense while leaving the offense fewer chances to build rhythm. Hall needs workable first-down calls, a clear answer when the defense brings an extra rusher and enough movement at the line to make the running game useful beyond an occasional explosive carry.
Kadin Semonza has handled most of the passing work, while Tulane has also used Trace Johnson. Whoever takes the next snap needs a structure that produces manageable decisions. The important standard is whether the offense can stay on the field and complete its best drives.Individual stat box — production entering Friday

Finish the defensive possession
Army rushed for 329 yards in Tulane’s 20–17 loss last Saturday. The Green Wave led 17–10 in the fourth quarter before the Black Knights rallied and won on a field goal as time expired. Tulane’s official game review provides a clear picture of how quickly a lead can disappear when an opponent keeps creating opportunities.
Friday presents a different offense, but the demand for a completed stop remains. Tulane needs the tackle after the catch, the edge secured on a running play and the coverage call that gets every defender aligned before the snap. Avoiding one explosive play can preserve the value of an entire defensive series.
Memphis scored 28 unanswered second-half points in its 38–13 win over UAB, according to the Tigers’ game recap. Tulane has to prepare for adjustments after halftime and maintain its own organization if Memphis finds momentum.
Make Yulman an advantage
The Green Wave has won both of its home games this season. That gives Friday a useful setting for a response, but the home crowd needs the team to give it repeatable reasons to stay engaged: a third-down stop, a controlled scoring drive and a disciplined finish to a close possession.
Tulane’s best route is to make Memphis work for every advance while giving its own offense enough time with the football to threaten more than once. A complete performance would move the Green Wave to 3–3 and 1–1 in conference play. Friday offers Hall and his players a direct opportunity to regain their footing. The Sports Coma with Big Q
