Valančiūnas Dominates as Pelicans Hand Spurs 14th Straight Loss

New Orleans Pelicans Maintain Winning Streak, Defeat Spurs

by Rell Wright/Pelican Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans delivered an emphatic 121-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. The Pelicans’ Jonas Valančiūnas emerged as the standout player of the game, posting a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

The Spurs, who entered the game on a 13-game losing streak, were once again without their top overall draft choice, Victor Wembanyama. This absence proved to be a significant hurdle for the struggling team as they continued to search for answers.

The Pelicans, on the other hand, displayed a well-rounded team effort, with Trey Murphy III making a significant impact in the second half by draining four three-pointers en route to an 18-point performance. CJ McCollum contributed 19 points for the Pelicans, while Herb Jones added 17 points and made his presence felt on the defensive end with three steals.

Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, the Pelicans’ dynamic duo, played more of a facilitator role in this game, tallying 14 points each while dishing out seven assists apiece. Their unselfish play and ability to involve their teammates proved crucial in securing the victory.

Devin Vassell led the Spurs in scoring with 14 points, and Jeremy Sochan chipped in with 13 points, but it wasn’t enough to break their unfortunate losing streak.

The Pelicans now turn their attention to a challenging matchup against the Chicago Bulls, aiming to capitalize on their recent success and continue their climb in the Western Conference standings.
