WATCH: Adonai Mitchell fumbles go-ahead touchdown out of endzone during early celebration vs. Rams

WR Adonai Mitchell nearly had his first score as a pro this afternoon for the Indianapolis Colts. His attempt at a celebration, though, led to a turnover instead for Indy.

Mitchell made a great contested catch from QB Daniel Jones, before hitting a spin move to get down the sideline and score from 75 yards out. However, in reaching out the ball to celebrate, he lost control of it and dropped the football out of the back of the end zone, which resulted in a touchback rather than a touchdown.

Ball is out before it crosses the goal line. Itโ€™s a touchback!

The officials quickly ruled that Mitchell did not have control of the ball when he crossed the goal line. He then never regained possession after the bobble, with the Rams taking over possession from there.

Thatโ€™s then just even worse considering the circumstances of the game. Indianapolis and Los Angeles have been within a possession of one another all afternoon in SoFi Stadium, but the Colts got behind going into halftime. Still, in just a three-point game, Mitchell couldโ€™ve gotten them back ahead to open the second half rather than his team still being down as theyโ€™re currently headed toward the fourth quarter in LA.
