The Detroit Lions thought they were going to get the football back in the fourth quarter with a stop on 3rd & 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the referees saw it differently with a flag for defensive pass interference, essentially ending the game with the result being a first down, on DB Rock Ya-Sin, and NBCโs Cris Collinsworth couldnโt have disagreed more.
Ya-Sin, who was in disbelief himself once the flag came out, was called for pass interference on WR AJ Brown. After review of the replay, though, Collinsworth went as far as to say that not only should there not have been a flag on Ya-Sin, but there instead should have been a flag for offensive pass interference on Brown.
This is an awful DPI to end the game.
You can’t let this happen. Ridiculous. Could argue that’s OPI on AJ Brown. pic.twitter.com/4u6ZlQrE22

โOh cโmon. Cโmon. That is terrible,โ said Collinsworth. โThat is an absolutely terrible call thatโs going to decide this football game. If anything, itโs an offensive push.โ
โThatโs an offensive foul. If you want to call a foul, itโs an offensive foul,โ Collinsworth said after an additional look. โWow.โ
โCertainly some hand-fighting, but not even at the level weโve seen,โ Mike Tirico added on the broadcast.
Again, regardless of how egregious you think the flag is, what was worse is that the game was ended on it. Instead of the Lions getting the ball back down just a score, the Eagles got the eight yards at the spot of the foul and an automatic first down. Then, after three runs, two timeouts, and an eventual kneel, Philadelphia finished off a victory with that with a 16-9 win over Detroit.
