The Gainesville-area home of former Florida Gators star wideout Percy Harvin was engulfed in flames Thursday evening, according to TMZ Sports. TMZ added it’s unclear if the 37-year-old Harvin or any family were present when the inferno erupted, but “indications are that no one was seriously harmed.”
Alachua County officials confirmed both firefighters and police responded to Harvin’s home, located near Florida’s campus where he starred and won two BCS National Championships alongside former quarterback Tim Tebow between 2006-08, late Thursday evening.
“I can confirm that the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a structure fire at that residence yesterday evening,” an ACSO spokesperson told TMZ. “Alachua County Fire Rescue responded and handled the incident while we assisted with evacuating nearby residences and closing the roadway.”
The fire was caught on video by one of Harvin’s neighbors, which you can see below:
After leaving Florida following a second BCS national title in his three years, Havin was selected 22nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft . Harvin played for four teams — including the Seattle Seahawks , the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills — across eight NFL seasons, winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2009 with the Vikings and Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks.
Harvin’s home fire Thursday follows an eerily similar situation for Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra , whose Miami-area home went up in flames last week.
