Xavier Worthy injury update: Report reveals Kansas City Chiefs WR's expected status vs. Giants

Xavier Worthy was hoping to suit up for the Chiefs in Week 3 after suffering an injury during their season-opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. He dislocated his right shoulder, and it’ll reportedly keep the wide receiver out of this weekend’s game against the New York Giants.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini of The Athletic confirmed the news on Saturday: “Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy is not expected to play Sunday night vs the Giants, as @DMRussini also reported,” Schefter posted on X.

That’s a big hole to fill for the Chiefs. It all stems from when ran into Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on a crossing route against the Chargers and injured his shoulder. The Chiefs went on to lose the game 27-21.

Kansas City couldn’t turn things around in Week 2 either, suffering a 20-17 loss to the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are undoubtedly missing their lightning-fast wide receiver at the moment.

“More than anything, having him out there is a threat in general,” Chief quarterback Patrick Mahomes said on Wednesday, per ESPN. “At any moment, he can take a pass — short or long — and take it to the house. Having him on the practice field was very encouraging last week. Seeing him out there, he wanted to stay out there. It was kind of like holding him back.”

Moreover, Worthy was excellent in his debut  NFL  campaign last season, recording 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns. Worthy’s 638 receiving yards were the second-most for the Chiefs, only trailing Travis Kelce.

Additionally, Worthy is a dangerous downfield receiver. The Chiefs selected him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after he set the NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash with a 4.21-second time.
