The New York Yankees needed bullpen help ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball trade deadline, and the front office delivered the help they needed. The Yankees acquired David Bednar, Jake Bird and Camilo Doval before Thursday’s deadline to hopefully build what could be one of the best bullpens in the league. It still might end up being that, but it did not perform like that in their debut games on Friday, with all three pitchers playing a major role in an almost unbelievable late-game collapse against the Miami Marlins. The Yankees were not only on the wrong end of a 13-12 loss, but they did so by blowing a 9-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, and then surrendering a 12-10 lead in the bottom of the ninth. It was the new pitchers on the hook for all of those runs. It started with Bird allowing four earned runs in only one-third of an inning. All four runs came in the form of a Kyle Stowers grand slam.
