New Orleans, La-
The New Orleans Saints excitingly open their season by kicking a 58-yard FG that sent the team to its first win of the year. The Saints were able to break the unfortunate streak of starting the last four seasons with opening day losses. The team struggled early in pretty much all phases of the game but held firm enough until the Saints got it into gear.
I must admit that the game was very exciting. The saints showed that they have a fierce desire to win and not give up, several plays thru out the second half of the game showed that.
First Take: The Saints Offense Line was more than solid in protecting QB Drew Brees from Texans All-World DE JJ Watt. Watt did not record a stat in the match-up which was pretty outstanding by the Saints O-line. The Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk & right guard Larry Warford could be given much of credit for performing that feat.
Second Take: The WR Core of Thomas & Ginn Jr was special in this game. Thomas and Ginn recorded 17 receptions for 124 yards which included several magnificent grabs that kept drives alive. The final drive was grabs by Ted Ginn Jr that help place the Saints in a position to hit a 58 yard FG for the win.
Third Take: The Pass Rush Defense was ferocious and consistent, The Saints D recorded 6 sacks and 11 QB hits on Texan QB Deshaun Watson which produced an interception as well. The team showed QB pressure that despite the run defense allowing 180 rush yards were respectable.
The Saints still have a lot to improve upon moving forward but they got the win despite those deficiencies.
