Green Bay Packers defensive end Barryn Sorrell left Saturday’s preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts with an injury. The rookie pass-rusher is dealing with a left knee injury, according to the TV broadcast.
Sorrell had a solid showing last week in his preseason debut, registering two quarterback hits as he generated pressure. Green Bay selected him in the fourth round out of Texas , where he served as a key piece of the vaunted Longhorns pass rush for the last three years and helped the program to back-to-back national semifinal appearances.
Sorrell had a huge senior season at Texas in 2024. He totaled 44 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and six sacks – setting career-highs in the latter two categories. All told, he had 132 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks over four years in Austin and three seasons in a starting role.
Since arriving in Green Bay this summer, Sorrell has been looking to carve out a role on the Packers defense. Coordinator Jeff Hafley had some high praise after last week’s preseason matchup, pointing out the way he was able to correct mistakes as the game went along.
“Here’s what I saw last night: he got better as the game went on,” Hafley said, via Packers Wire. “He made mistakes in the game, and the same drive, he was correcting them, which says a lot. That doesn’t really happen a lot of times for rookie players.”
