Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn addressed the decision to leave quarterback Jayden Daniels in the game Sunday, resulting in an elbow injury. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s contest with the Commanders trailing the Seattle Seahawks by 31 points as Daniels was tackled and landed awkwardly on his left arm.

Replay showed the QB’s arm bend outward and trainers rushed to the field and immediately put it in an air cast. He walked off the field under his own power with assistance from the training staff as the crowd cheered him off with well wishes.

“Obviously, the hindsight,” Quinn said. “You don’t want to think that way that an injury would take place. We were more conservative in that spot to run and hand off. Just the end result, obviously I’m bummed. …We didn’t have any read plays on it. The one that he was injured, there’s usually a runner or a throw to the flat, not a scramble. So it wasn’t a designed read or play into that spot. If we run it 50 times it’s either a handoff or a throw 50 times.

The Commanders punched in a score after Daniels’ injury, but trailed 38-14 with 7:14 remaining in the game. They would go on to lose by the same score and fall to 3-6 on the season.

Quinn didn’t have much of an update postgame, except to confirm that it is indeed an elbow injury. Hopefully we’ll know more as the week progresses.

“The update on him is a left elbow injury,” he said. “I’ll update you more once we know more, but that’s what I have tonight.”

Jayden Daniels finished the game 16-of-22 passing for 153 yards, one interceptions, 51 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. It was a rough night for Washington as they allowed 24 points in the second quarter and were playing catchup all game.
