New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after being shot in Midtown early Sunday morning, and is “now clinging to life at Bellevue Hospital,” according to the New York Post. The shooting reportedly took place around 2 am ET, according to New York City Police, who did not identify Boyd, a Texas alum, as the victim to the Post.
Police did tell the Post that the shooting remains under investigation and there have been no arrests as of printing. WABC-7 reported officers found Boyd with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and he was immediately transported to Bellevue Hospital.
The New York Jets released a statement about Boyd shortly after noon ET Sunday: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 29-year-old Boyd is seven-year NFL pro who is currently on injured reserve with the Jets, which lost to the rival New England Patriots , 27-14, on Thursday night. Boyd was a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Texas , where he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior in 2018. Boyd has also played for the Arizona Cardinals (2023) and the Houston Texans (2023-24).
