According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is set to miss an “extended period” of time due to a foot issue. The exact timeline for Mixon is not yet known, likely getting looked at again closer to the beginning of the regular season.
“#Texans RB Joe Mixon, who is on the non-football injury list, is expected to be out an extended period of time with a frustrating foot injury, sources say,” Rapoport said via X. “The Pro Bowler coming off a 1,000-yard season will be reevaluated closer to the season to determine his availability.”
Houston will open the season on Sept. 7 at SoFi Stadium against the Los Angeles Rams. A big one out of the gates, as two teams with playoff aspirations go head-to-head. Certainly, one you have to believe the Texans would enjoy having Mixon healthy for.
Last year was the first for Mixon in Houston after spending the previous seven with the Cincinnati Bengals. Another 1,000-yard season was recorded, as Rapoport pointed out. Mixon rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns on 245 carries. Some nice plays were made in the pass game too, catching 36 balls for 309 yards and a score.
Mixon was a big weapon in the playoffs for the Texans as well. He got into the endzone against both the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round and the Divisional Round vs. the Kansas City Chiefs a week later. The running back totalled 194 yards on 43 carries.
