Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert underwent successful surgery Monday in Los Angeles to stabilize a fracture in his left hand, the team announced. He is considered day-to-day.
The Chargers host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14 next Monday. Herbert’s status for that game will be determined later in the week.
Herbert sustained the injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s 31-14 Week 13 home win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn hit Herbert on a scramble. Chinn’s helmet connected directly with Herbert’s hand. Herbert initially stayed in the game before exiting. He missed nine plays before returning. Herbert said after the game he didn’t expect to miss any time.
“I’m treating it as if I’m playing on Monday,” Herbert said. “I think they were very hopeful for that. I think that’s something that we’ll see [Monday] and we’ll get a feel for. I think they were very hopeful so that’s always a good thing.”
