LSU has earned national attention. Now comes the test of sustaining it.
The No. 8 Tigers host Louisiana Tech on Saturday after opening the Lane Kiffin era with a 51–10 win over Clemson. The Bulldogs arrive with their own emphatic result: an 80–6 victory over Northwestern State.
Those performances set up an intriguing in-state matchup, even if the teams faced very different opening-week competition.

LSU’s opening performance provides the blueprint

Week 2 offers a chance to reinforce those strengths. The standard should be efficient possessions and sound execution, rather than chasing last week’s final score.
Louisiana Tech brings offensive confidence

Scoring against an FCS opponent does not establish how that offense will perform against LSU. It does, however, give the Tigers reason to treat every phase seriously.
Three keys to an LSU victory
1. Make Baker earn sustained drives
LSU should aim to limit clean early-down throws and force Louisiana Tech into longer third downs. That means disciplined coverage alongside pressure: chasing sacks cannot come at the expense of leaving receivers uncovered.
A productive opening series on defense would also help prevent the visitors from settling into the comfortable rhythm they enjoyed in Week 1.
2. Keep the offense balanced
Leavitt’s running ability adds a threat, but LSU does not need to build its entire plan around quarterback carries. Establishing the backs, protecting the pocket and taking available throws would let the Tigers apply pressure without forcing explosive plays.
The most useful sign of progress would be an offense that remains efficient even when its first option is covered.
3. Win the hidden possessions
Punt coverage, clean exchanges and avoiding unnecessary penalties can keep an underdog from gaining inexpensive scoring opportunities. Latulas gives this point particular relevance.
LSU should make Louisiana Tech drive the field. Short fields and return touchdowns would give the Bulldogs a route into the game that the Tigers can help close through preparation.
