Almost nothing has come of the Micah Parsons contract situation to this point. Both parties have been publicly discussing the idea for months now and still, no agreement. It comes into a brighter spotlight as the Dallas Cowboys begin training camp in Oxnard.
Monday allowed Jerry Jones to speak on the matter in a variety of different ways. One day later, Parsons was in front of the press with his own point of view. And for the first time, Parsons acknowledged the end of his Cowboys career might be on the horizon.
“I’ve been pretty consistent,” Parsons said via Jon Machota of The Athletic . “If they don’t want me here, they don’t want me here. I’ll go about my business, I understand the nature of the business. Like I said, as long as I’m here and under contract, I’m going to do what I have to do to perform at the highest level. But if this is the end, this is the end.
“Same way the Joneses — Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones — take care of their family. It’s the same way I need to take care of my family. I got my own three kids of my own, so I need to take care of my own family at the end of the day.”
Parsons still has one year remaining on his rookie contract. Many wondered if he would hold out of training camp but leadership has been a big focus inside the building over the offseason. With the goal of being a leader this year, Parsons decided to dress out and join his teammates on the field on Tuesday.
