Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons shocked the NFL world last week by publicly requesting a trade from the franchise on Twitter/X. The trade request came after contract negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys had reached an impasse over recent weeks.
Although Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reassured the mediathat Dallas has ‘no intention’ of honoring Parsons’ trade request, this is certainly a pressing issue as the season approaches.
Standout defensive players around the league, such as New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt , have received lucrative contracts in recent weeks. However, Parsons remains unsigned and both sides (Parsons and his agent against the Cowboys) are both claiming different things when it comes to discussing an extension.
On Wednesday, 105.3 The Fan ‘s Bobby Belt revealed the timeline behind the contract dilemma according to David Mulugheta , Parsons’ agent.
Mulugheta brought up extension following 2024 season, per Belt
“After the 2024 season, [Mulugheta] saw [ Stephen Jones ] at the combine and told him that [he and Micah Parsons ] were open to business,” Belt said. “We’re ready to do a deal and ready to work on an extension if you guys want to. [Dallas] is disputing the claim that they haven’t wanted to get a deal done because they’ve wanted to wait.”
