Micah Parsons trade request: Jerry Jones makes bizarre analogy on contract negotiations

Contract negotiation with Micah Parsons has gotten to the point where he has requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. Owner/general manager Jerry Jones declared there is no intention of moving Parsons, creating a standoff. And the whole situation got even weirder on Saturday due to an anology used by Jones.

“When I grew up I knew when momma wouldn’t let me do something, going to daddy and daddy letting me do it,” Jones said via Jon Machota of The Athletic . “Then going back in and saying to momma, ‘Daddy said I could do it.’ That old momma/daddy stuff, we got here doing that by nature. We’re not going to do that.”

Jones is most likely talking about the talks he previously held with Parsons. In his opinion, a deal was struck with the Cowboys’ star player before getting agent David Mulugheta involved. From there, things began to get complicated between the two sides.

Parsons spoke on the matter in his released statement on Friday. He says the original conversation between him and Jones was about his leadership with the team moving forward. Talks shifted according to Parsons and it’s where issues began to pop up.

“I engaged in a back and forth in regards to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point did I believe this was supposed to be a formal negotiation and I informed Mr. Jones afterward my agent would reach out thinking this would get things done. But when my agent reached out… he was told the deal was pretty much done. My agent of course told him that wasn’t the case.”
