Michael Thomas’s Arrest: What We Know So Far

by Niles Carpenter/Saints Contributor

Saints Star WR Michael Thomas is facing simple battery and criminal mischief charges in connection with a confrontation with a construction worker. Thomas found himself in a troubling situation on Friday night as he was taken into custody following an alleged altercation with a construction vehicle.

According to reports from WDSU, Thomas is said to have thrown two bricks at a project manager’s truck and engaged in a physical confrontation with him, even confiscating the man’s phone when he attempted to document the damage.

This incident is reported to have been preceded by a series of threats directed at the project manager over the course of two weeks, with the source of the conflict arising from Thomas’s dissatisfaction with the construction crew’s parking near his residence.

In the wake of this incident, the New Orleans Saints organization has acknowledged their awareness of the situation and is actively gathering additional information. As the legal proceedings unfold, there remains uncertainty about how this incident may impact Michael Thomas’s standing within the team and his future in the NFL.

Thomas, a key player for the Saints, had caught 38 of 62 targets for 439 yards and one touchdown in the nine games leading up to this incident. His potential absence in Week 10 could open up opportunities for other receiving options like Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, while also granting increased playing time to A.T. Perry and Lynn Bowden Jr.
