The New Orleans Saints made some significant roster moves as they wrapped up their Saturday preparations, according to a report by Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. One of the notable changes involved elevating linebacker Ryan Connelly from the practice squad to the active roster. Connelly’s promotion underscores the Saints’ focus on shoring up their linebacker corps as they aim to navigate a competitive week one match up.
Additionally, the Saints also added running back Tony Jones Jr. to the active roster from their practice squad. With a talented backfield featuring Jamaal Williams and Kirk Merritt, Jones provides valuable depth in the running back position. His versatility and readiness to contribute both on offense and special teams make him a versatile asset for the Saints, offering them flexibility and options as they plan for the upcoming games.
In other news, wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith has been placed on Injured Reserve due to a lingering groin injury that has kept him out of practice since August 5th. While this move was expected given Smith’s extended absence Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, and Rashid Shaheed are the top of the Saints’ receiving corps. As the Saints embark on their season, these roster adjustments reflect their commitment to fielding a competitive team and addressing key positions to ensure a win on the field.
