Selected as a first-round pick (24th overall) out of the University of Michigan in the 2020 NFL Draft, Caesar Ruiz has steadily developed his skills and become a cornerstone of the Saints’ offensive line. Over his three seasons in New Orleans, Ruiz has appeared in 46 games, with 40 starts to his name. Remarkably, in the 2021 season, he was the sole offensive player for the Saints to start all 17 contests, displaying his durability and reliability.
Although Ruiz faced some early struggles in his NFL journey, he hit his stride in his third year, thanks in part to the guidance of new offensive line coach Doug Marrone. In that pivotal season, Ruiz showcased his versatility, transitioning from his college position as a center to primarily playing right guard for the Saints. His improved performance was evident in both run blocking and pass protection, making him an invaluable asset to the team’s success.
Unfortunately, his stellar season was cut short by a foot injury that forced him to miss the last three games, but his impact had already left an indelible mark on the Saints’ offensive line. As Ruiz enters his prime at just 24 years old, the Saints are undoubtedly excited about the prospect of having him anchor their offensive line for years to come, ensuring the protection and success of their $150 million dollar QB Derek Carr.
