NFL rejected Nick Easton’s deal with Saints

Nick Easton just signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints, but now it appears that the offensive lineman will have to wait until he can actually join the team.

Easton’s contract with the Saints was rejected by the National Football League on Wednesday, according to a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

The exact reasoning as to why the league stepped in remains unclear, but the report indicates that the matter is not serious and will require only a slight alteration to fix the matter.

There is a “language issue” in the contract, causing it to be rejected, but the Saints are dealing with the matter and “the contract should become official tomorrow,” The Times Picayune adds.

Usually in these situations, the league office rejects a contract because of a prospective salary cap problem or an issue relating to the language in the agreement.

The Saints signed Easton to a four year contract worth a reported $24 million after veteran center Max Unger surprisingly announced his retirement from football this past weekend.

A similar thing happened with a pair of Saints players last offseason, when the league intervened and briefly cancelled reserve contracts signed by linebacker Jayrone Elliott and wide receiver Josh Huff.
