Pelicans Announce Key Staff Additions and Promotions

by Rell Wright/Pelican Contributor

The New Orleans Pelicans are gearing up for the upcoming NBA season with a series of notable changes in their coaching staff and basketball operations department. These moves signify the organization’s commitment to building a stronger foundation for success both on and off the court.

Coaching Staff Enhancements

In a bid to bolster Head Coach Willie Green‘s team, the Pelicans have made significant additions to their coaching staff. James Borrego has been appointed as the Associate Head Coach, bringing a wealth of experience to the team. His insights and strategic acumen will be valuable assets as the Pelicans aim for a successful season.

Joining Borrego is Assistant Coach Aaron Miles, whose coaching expertise will be a valuable addition to the coaching roster. The combination of Borrego, Miles, and Green is poised to offer the Pelicans a formidable coaching team, ready to guide the players to their full potential.

Strengthening the Basketball Operations Department

In the basketball operations department, the Pelicans have made strategic hires to improve their analytics and video coordination. Dominic Samangy takes on the role of Basketball Analytics Coordinator, bringing a data-driven approach to the team’s decision-making processes. His insights into player performance and game strategies will be crucial in enhancing the Pelicans’ competitive edge.

Ed Flynn has been named the Head Video Coordinator, leading the video analysis efforts. He will be supported by Assistant Video Coordinators Garrius Adams and Jake McGee, as well as Video/Player Development Assistant Keith Omoerah. The video room’s efficiency and accuracy in breaking down games and player performance are pivotal for the team’s growth.

Front Office Changes

The Pelicans have also made key changes in their front office to fortify their operations. Adam Barnes has been appointed as the General Manager of Basketball Operations for the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ G League affiliate. This move aims to strengthen the synergy between the main team and its developmental squad.

Furthermore, Alex Kaufman has been promoted to Manager of Player Evaluation and Basketball Operations, recognizing his dedication and contributions to the organization.

A New Leader in Rehabilitation

One of the most significant changes is the hiring of Amy Atmore as the Director of Rehabilitation. Atmore takes on a crucial role in managing player health and recovery, which has been a pressing concern for the Pelicans due to injuries that have sidelined key players. Her expertise and strategies will be critical in addressing this persistent challenge and ensuring the team’s athletes are in peak physical condition.

Aaron Nelson has transitioned into the role of Special Advisor to the Medical and Performance Team. His experience will continue to be an asset to the organization as he offers guidance and support in player health and performance.

The Pelicans organization is taking these steps with a clear focus on improvement and success. With a strengthened coaching staff, enhanced basketball operations, and a renewed focus on player health, the New Orleans Pelicans are positioning themselves for a brighter future in the NBA.
