New Orleans, LA The New Orleans Pelicans have had meetings with Allstar Big Anthony Davis out in California this week. The unofficial word is A.D. hasn’t changed his perspective on team despite the wholesale major moves lead by owner Gayle Benson. Some people would think that with all that New Orleans has done in the time since the end of the regular season, it would force you to at the very least think of staying aboard.
I must give the Pelicans organization huge props for attempting to change the culture of the team by bringing in winners who know what it takes to build a champion. Here’s a list of moves the team has made in just the last few months:
Hiring Of David Griffin to VP of Basketball Operations– Griffin is well respected and like around the league who has overseen a championship NBA team unlike his predecessor.
Hiring Of Aaron Nelson to oversee the training & rehabbing aspect of the team, which was a HUGE problem in past years. Nelson is considered one of if not the best trainer in all the NBA. Aaron’s hiring shows health of players is of utmost importance moving ahead as he has proven results in this arena.
The cheap method of sharing medical personal with the Saints hurt the team in my opinion. We should now get more playing time and less injuries from our players, which in turn could make Gentry better (hopefully). He was reported to have told Mrs Benson the cost to elevate the training staff & equipment upwards of $800k. Lets just say Mrs Benson didn’t bat an eye at the cost.
Hiring Of Trajan Langdon to GM- Langdon a young, talented & respected executive who helped to shape the lowly New Jersey Nets into a playoff team this year as an assistant GM. He & Griffin will bring high expectations to the New Orleans Pelicans has they look to compete now. The fact the Trajan has experience as a former player only lends to his effectiveness in relations with current players around the team.
Winning the 1st selection in the 2019 NBA Draft– This selection will undoubtedly become basketball phenom Zion Williamson. Williamson will electrify the Pelicans fanbase and give the team a new & exciting era of basketball in The Big Easy. New Orleans also have 2 second round picks that will help with depth off the bench.
The Pelicans Vp David Griffin hasn’t given an update on the meeting but according to multiple reports the team is listening to offers for AD services. The most compelling of possible trade mates are the Boston Celtics with Jayson Tatum, Brown, Smart & Picks. Then there’s the Clippers, Knicks, Nets, Suns, Lakers, Bucks & others.
I think we have to move on if what I have just listed isn’t enough to sway you in the slightest. AD has given seven awesome years of basketball highlights & set every record you can image for the franchise. It’s time to move to the phase which is pro basketball in New Orleans WITHOUT Anthony Davis.
