Pelicans Edged by Spurs in Thriller, 111-109
By Rell Wright, Pelicans Contributor
The San Antonio Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama, staged a remarkable second-half comeback to snatch a 111-109 victory from the New Orleans Pelicans, extending the latter’s losing streak to four games. Wembanyama, after a quiet first half, ignited the Spurs with 14 points post-intermission, including a pivotal block in the dying seconds that denied the Pelicans a chance to break their losing spell. This victory marked a significant turnaround for the Spurs, who had previously faced seven consecutive defeats against New Orleans.

The Pelicans, grappling with the absence of their top scorers Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram due to injuries, saw CJ McCollum stepping up with a commendable 31-point performance. Despite leading by ten at halftime, the Pelicans could not fend off the Spurs’ spirited comeback, highlighted by a game-tying effort in the third quarter. The Spurs’ collective effort, with notable contributions across the board, underscored a resilient team performance, overshadowing the Pelicans’ strategy to double-team Wembanyama. This nail-biter not only halted the Spurs’ losing streak against New Orleans but also showcased the potential of emerging talents, setting the stage for an intriguing next round of fixtures.
