Report: Former Florida star Fred Johnson traded to Super Bowl contender amid roster cuts

The Jacksonville Jaguars are trading offensive tackle Fred Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Johnson returns to the team he played for from 2022 to 2024.

In March, Fred Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Jaguars after spending nearly three seasons with the Eagles. During the 2024 season, Johnson played in all 17 regular season games and all four playoff games, which ended with a Super Bowl title. He was part of an offensive line that helped the Eagles rush for 3,048 yards, which set a single-season franchise record and ranked sixth in NFL history.

After spending four years with the Florida Gators, Johnson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in May of that year but was waived by the team on Oct. 11. Johnson was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals and played in six games with one start that season.

Johnson spent another two seasons in Cincinnati and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April 2022. He played in five games for the Buccaneers before the team waived him in November. The Eagles signed Johnson to their practice squad a week after he was released by the Bucs.
