Saints Officially Sign 12 to Practice Squad

New Orleans announced the following players:

POSPLAYER
EDGEFadil Diggs
RBCJ Donaldson
CBTJ Hall Jr.
TAlan Herron
TEaston Kilty
WRJalen Moreno-Cropper
WRTrey Palmer
LBJackson Sirmon
KCharlie Smyth — International Pathway Program
DLJay’Viar Suggs
RBZamir White
TAlex Wollschlaeger

The group gives New Orleans developmental depth across nearly every area of the roster, with offensive tackle, running back and wide receiver particularly well represented.

Zamir White Stays in New Orleans

One of the biggest names returning is Zamir White.

The Saints acquired White during their injury-plagued preseason before ultimately leaving him off the active roster. Getting him onto the practice squad allows New Orleans to maintain experienced running-back depth behind Travis Etienne, Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller and Audric Estimé.

That’s significant considering how badly injuries hit the Saints’ backfield during training camp.

Trey Palmer Gives Saints Additional WR Depth

Trey Palmer is another player worth watching.

New Orleans is entering the season thin at wide receiver, with Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele, Bryce Lance and Barion Brown among the healthy options while first-round pick Jordyn Tyson begins the season on injured reserve.

Keeping Palmer in the building gives the Saints another experienced option who could potentially be elevated if injuries strike or the coaching staff needs additional receiver depth on game day.

Fadil Diggs Remains an Intriguing Developmental EDGE

The Saints also retained Fadil Diggs, giving the defense another developmental pass rusher.

New Orleans has established names such as Chase Young, Carl Granderson, Cameron Jordan, Tyree Wilson and Anfernee Jennings, but maintaining young EDGE depth is important over a 17-game season.

Diggs now gets additional development time inside the Saints’ system without New Orleans having to use an active-roster position.

Saints Still Have Roster Questions

The practice squad may be taking shape, but Mickey Loomis shouldn’t necessarily be finished.

Three areas deserve continued attention:

Wide receiver remains one of the biggest concerns because of Tyson’s injury and the limited number of healthy receivers currently on the active roster.

Offensive-line depth is another area to watch. New Orleans has already responded by claiming versatile offensive lineman Mason Murphy, but additional experienced depth could still be valuable.

Defensive-line depth also remains important following Bryan Bresee’s season-ending injury. The Saints addressed that area by claiming Colby Wooden, but the interior rotation will remain under scrutiny once the regular season begins. These were also identified as key remaining needs in the roster analysis leading into the latest moves.

Mason Murphy and Colby Wooden Join the 53-Man Roster

The practice squad wasn’t New Orleans’ only business.

The Saints also claimed offensive lineman Mason Murphy and defensive lineman Colby Wooden, adding both players to the active roster.

Murphy provides valuable positional flexibility along an offensive line that needs additional depth. Wooden brings NFL experience to a defensive front looking to compensate for the loss of Bresee.

Those additions show that New Orleans is still looking beyond its original cutdown roster for upgrades.

Big Q Breaks Down What’s Next for the Saints

The initial 53-man roster was only the beginning.

Between waiver claims, practice-squad additions, injuries and potential elevations, the Saints roster that takes the field during the regular season could continue changing.

Big Q breaks down all 12 practice-squad additions, the latest roster moves, the Saints’ remaining needs and which players could eventually find their way onto the active roster on the latest Sports Coma.
